This Month's Radical Idea

We Need To Pollute

To live is to pollute the environment. Even animals can damage whole ecosystems. Pretending there is a way to not pollute gets in the way of looking at how to most efficiently reduce the damage we cause. Many extremists who perpetuate the idea that polluting is somehow evil or that not polluting is possible are just overly idealistic and ignorant. Others seem to have an anti-human bias to their philosophy.

Reducing pollution is a worthy goal, because it means a better world to live in. However, it isn't a better world to live in if blindly attacking all sources of "pollution" causes people to be without jobs or go hungry. We need to rid ourselves of unrealistic notions in order to find the best ways to reduce harmful pollutants without making life worse for people.

This Month's Radical Quote

- Natural resources have dropped out of the competitive equation. In fact, a lack of natural resources may even be an advantage. Because the industries we are competing for - the industries of the future - are all based on brainpower. - Lester Thurow
